Practical Clay Plaster Workshop
organized by the Energieinstitut Vorarlberg
In our 1.5-day "Practical Workshop: Clay Plaster," we provide an insight into the techniques of preparing and applying pit clay for plastering and designing walls. You will gain basic theoretical knowledge about the fascinating, ecological, and healthy building material clay and learn about it "up close" through practical work.
The primary goal of this workshop, beyond theoretical knowledge, is to gain the know-how to mix and apply clay plaster made from pit clay yourself. Since half of the "practical construction site" is already finished, you can also take a closer look at already plastered walls with various surface designs. This will give you plenty of inspiration for designing your own walls!
Registration is handled via the Energieinstitut Vorarlberg. The next course will take place in the spring of 2027.

Fine Plaster Workshop

In this workshop, the focus is on the production of custom fine plasters. The "final layer" is ultimately the surface we see in our living spaces every day, which is why a delicate touch is required when creating fine plaster. There are countless design possibilities here, and one can create beautiful surfaces using different color pigments and additives such as straw, colored sands, biochar, or mother-of-pearl. Surface design can also be influenced by various techniques.
All of this is presented, discussed, and, above all, tested in practice during the workshop. The goal is for participants to be able to produce their own fine plaster according to their wishes after the workshop.

Individual Workshops

The range of techniques surrounding ecological building is vast, and needs can be very specific. Therefore, we regularly host workshops on more unusual topics, such as clay brick production. Provided there are enough participants, an individual workshop can also be held on an existing construction site. This allows self-builders to learn the craft directly on-site with their helpers.

Individual School and Children's Workshops

With our workshops for children, we want to make the natural and future-oriented building material clay "tangible." We aim to enable them to learn and experience it with all their senses and invite them to experiment and explore.
Architects direct immense financial flows with their designs and concepts, steering the development of our living environment and the construction industry, right down to the materials used. Raising awareness in this area seems very important to us, and Brigitte offers a great format with her Architecture Excursions. Depending on the type of excursion, we provide the introduction or the practical clay construction segment.
